Dan's dad came home from temple and then it was time for lunch. Finley practiced hanging out on his own during the meal and thankfully, made it through most of it in his bumbo seat. He then took a great nap and woke up in time for all of us to go on a walk to a park with bucket swings. We got home and attempted to show off Finley's evolving solid food skills to his grandparents, but that bombed and we mostly just made a mess. Bad Finley. He recovered well by downing a bottle that his Grandpa gave him before bedtime. Good Finley.
On Sunday, it was a Forseter bonanza in Brooklyn. Let's see: Dan, me and Finley, Murray and Gilda, Annette and Bernie, Eric, Amy and Mia, Karen and Dave, and Ellie and Donny all met up for brunch near Ellie and Donny's new apartment. Plus my friend Kate (from high school) and her husband, Mitch, dared to joined the bunch. Kate came up to Boston in January to hang out and meet Finley, so she couldn't believe how big he had gotten (despite being a trusted blog follower). He was wearing the Derek Jeter shirt that she had given him in January and we recalled how big it looked then and now it is a perfect fit! Kate was kind enough to let Finley put his hands ALL over her face, what a good friend!
We tried to choose something off the menu, but Finley had other plans in mind.
While we waited for our food, Mia came down to our end of the table and gave Finley two little books. Then, Aunt Annette helped her read them to Finley, who was very attentive!
Finley enjoyed hearing the stories and, of course, eating them. Brunch was fun (and overwhelming!) and then we got to walk over to Ellie's new place. The apartment is wonderful and Finley enjoyed being passed around and checking everyone out. Here he is with his Aunt Ellie.
We hung out for a couple hours and then it was time to head to Coney Island. However, being a holiday weekend and a warm, sunny day--everyone else in the area decided to go there as well so we spent 3 hours in the car trying to get there, giving up, and then trying to get out! Finley did well for most of the ride, but after some tears erupted I dug out the "pacifier pod" that was in his diaper bag as a last resort. As you know, Finley rejects all pacifiers and has since he was a month old, but he does love to chew on the carrier we have to hold them (just in case the world turns upside down). After enjoying it for quite some time, it ended up on his wrist and then his arm. GG remarked that it looked like a little purse and I decided to snap a photo to use as blackmail when his middle school years roll around :) "Finley carries a purse, Finley carries a purse!" And he looks darn happy doing it!
After his best night's sleep on record, we spent the morning hanging out and visiting with Dan's cousin Julie, her husband Matt, and their kids, Maggie and Harrison, who were passing through on their way home to NJ. Maggie was great with Finley and he was eager to be like the big kids!
Soon it was time to say goodbye, so GG gave Finley one last squeeze and then we hopped in the car for a traffic-free ride home! Don't worry, buddy, we'll come back soon!
