We are becoming well acquainted with our new town and it has been fun (exhausting, too) to see what kind of things we can busy ourselves with after picking up Finley from school each day. Last week, we did two very memorable things on the same afternoon.
Along with some other eager moms and kids, we toured the Acton Public Safety building (aka the police station). An officer escorted us all into the lecture room and the kids got to ask their questions and learn about what a policeman does all day.
Here's Finley being his usual attentive self...picture him 15 years from now in a college class...
Then it was time for the tour. We got to see the 911 call room, some cell blocks (I had a germaphobe attack upon seeing the toilets in each one and rushed Finley quickly past), and eventually a new police cruiser. Finley liked seeing all the lights flashing.
And he was relived that the officer said he wasn't going to turn on the siren. He climbed into the back seat and posed for the camera.
We finished up with some coloring books, stickers, and a handshake from the officer. It was great and now every time we drive by the station, Finley remarks, "We have been there!"
Afterwards, we had time to check out a local indoor playground called JamTime. As soon as we walked in, Finley sat down and removed his shoes, put them in a cubby hole, and announced he was ready to go in. Well, geez, let me talk to the owner and see how this whole thing works! I paid for him (adults and immobile babies are free) and we all headed in. Finley wasted no time and was on the move for the entire hour and a half we were there.
Pure joy!
He found some tools and drove around fixing things for everyone.
Not that you would know from these photos, but there was a huge climbing structure, a bouncy house, and lots of other fun things...but our vehicle-minded boy was fairly pre-occupied. On our way home, I explained that the indoor playground was called "JamTime" and if he wants to go back sometime, he just needs to ask, "Mommy, can we please go to JamTime?" Famous last words on my part, he's probably asked me five or six times since last Thursday already...
