Two days in the hospital

My parents got to the hospital about 2 hours after Finley was born and we all went to pick him up from the nursery. Luckily we got there just as he was having his first bowel movement. The nurse was nice enough to take care of it for me. The rest of the day was spent passing Finley around while he slept, sending emails, receiving phone calls, and taking pictures. Some of our friends (Sangwha, Eliot, Josh, and Lisa) also stopped by the hospital in the afternoon. It was odd to think that only 4 weeks earlier Allison and I had been visiting Josh and Sangwha in the hospital after Eliot was born.

The first night we tried to keep Finley in the room with us rather than sending him down to the nursery. I mean the kid did nothing but sleep all day…how hard could this be. Little did we realize that he sleeps very well when held, but not on his own. So Allison and I spent much of the night trading places holding Finley while the other one slept. Around 5am one of the nurses came in to check Finley’s vitals, and we asked her to take him to the nursery for a few hours so we could both get some rest. With only having 3 or 4 hours of sleep the night before we really needed it.

The 2nd day in the hospital was spent pretty much the same way as the first. At night Finley was able to sleep on his own a little. But we still sent him off to the nursery for 1.5 hours in the early morning.

On Wednesday morning we packed up our things, Allison and Finley both got a check up and were discharged, and then we strapped Finley in his car seat for the ride home. To our surprise he was quite as could be as we strapped him in, took him to the car, and drove home.
