Blueberries 2013

Now that we live out closer to orchards, farms, and other rural amenities, it makes excursions to aforementioned places much lower maintenance.  After a restful morning nap for Dagny, we piled into the car and headed to Honey Pot Hill to pick blueberries, just as we have done for the past two years.  In 2011, we went with Lisa, Sangwha, and Eliot and last year, we took tiny baby Dagny who slept for the entire experience.  Amazing the difference a year makes!

Finley was thrilled to start picking and just like last year, he quickly mastered the art of plucking the ripe blueberries off the bushes without crushing them.  While we did buy a 2 quart box for picking from the farm store, Finley had brought along his own pail and got right to work.  He was a machine!
Soon you couldn't see the bottom of the pail!
We took turns dropping berries into Dagny's pail since I wasn't quite ready to let her loose.  She loved the constant deliveries and chit chatted to us as we picked.
We walked through several different rows keeping our eyes out for blue bunches of berries ready to pick.  Finley was so industrious, it was quite something!! Before I knew it, my box was nearly full and Finley's pail was filling up fast.
He was very proud and continued to look for "good, low bushes" that were easy for him to reach and pick from.  I told him it was just about time to go, but he wouldn't stop picking!  Who am I to end such fun, right? So I dared to unbuckle Dagny and let her run free for a while as Finley continued his harvest.
At last, I convinced Finley that we really needed to head back to the car and he slowly trailed behind me and Dagny.  He was not only snacking from his pail as he walked,
but he kept stopping to refill it since "there's room where I ate some."
Can't argue with that logic! We brought home quite a pile of blueberries and Finley was excited that we could go back when we ran out and that we'll get to pick apples this fall :) I love New England!!
