Boston at its Best

We had a rare summer weekend that wasn't filled with prior commitments, so we took advantage and headed downtown to enjoy our city.  It happened to be around 70 degrees and sunny, a spectacular Boston summer forecast!

First stop, the Make Way for Ducklings statues. Finley was surprisingly more excited than Dagny and climbed aboard Mrs. Mallard quick as a flash.
We were there back in November just before winter and it's amazing how different the kids look after only a few months. Oh wait, that was nearly nine months ago...wow!

One thing we could not do back in November was ride the swam boats since they are seasonal.  Mid-summer, though, they were in full swing! I have been living near Boston since 1998 and never once ridden the swan boats, so I was just as excited as the kids (Dan was just humoring us by riding along!).
It was a lovely day on the water.
We hopped off the boats, enjoyed a snack in the grass and then made our way across the common.  We bumped into a college roommate of mine and her family.  Kelly's got two kids who are both just a year younger than ours (almost to the month).  The boys threw balls and frisbees around while the moms chatted and then we attempted to take a group photo.

Next stop, the carousel!
Watching them watch each other was just as entertaining as the ride itself!
The frog pond was in full swing and both kids were ready for bathing suits.
Most of the pond is quite shallow (more like a splash zone than a pond), which was great for Dagny and Finley showed her all around.
 Bellies in!
After a while, I walked around the pond with the kids until we found a deeper area and Finley pleaded for his googles so he could show off his new underwater swimming skills. And, boy, did he show off?! I was totally impressed and he was as proud as can be as he snorkeled around!

We went for pizza and brought it back to the park for a picnic and then headed home.  We certainly missing being closer to the city as we once were, but we're still not far and should take advantage more often!
