Finley, Space Shuttles, and his Pinterest Inspired Mom

Since I'm helping Finley's love of space grow and intensify (it seems), I took to Pinterest to get some craft ideas.  First, we dove into our stock pile of paper towel and toilet paper rolls (yes, we save them for just this kind of situation) and got working on little space shuttles.

Step one: paint white

Step 2: I hot glued them

Step 3: paint with q-tips
Finley wanted to paint his just like the pictures from pinterest, but Dagny had her own plans...

Awesome!

Now the second project, a soda bottle shuttle was a bit more work on my part but Finley was my eager assistant and together we made something pretty amazing!!
White duct tape, black duct tape, some cardstock printed wings and tail, black rocket boosters and then Finley's magic touch -- red tissue paper flames!!

We plan to hang this one in his newly decorated room once the space posters and photographs arrive in the mail as we overhaul the decor from what we'd picked out for his (sniff, sniff) nursery over five years ago!

Dagny is...(back in February)

A bumblebee

A backpack wearing utensil sorting wizard
 A bookworm
 Ready for a sleepover!
And if nothing else, Dagny is a girl with a plan (so don't get in her way!)

Children's Museum 2015 (back in February)

Over my February break, I took Finley and Dagny to the Children's Museum downtown.  We hadn't been in a year and it was awesome to see both of them so independent moving through each floor.  But of course, we had to start on the top floor with the bobcats (Finley's suggestion).
Then, it was off to the grocery store.
And the bubble room

We found a cool new "build with boxes" exhibit
Finley's final creation:
Balls and ramps
Basketball time!
2 points!
Finley attempts the two floor maze...but only made it far enough for a photo op!
Foam-tastic blocks
Water table time
Fun was had by all and we left just in time to meet Dan at his office for a pizza lunch just a ten minute walk from the museum. I love special family days like this!

One More Museum Exhibit: Space

Since January (or so), Finley been getting really interested in space: rockets, space shuttles, planets,  astroanuts, etc.  I was totally into the same thing around this age, maybe a year or so older, so I'm thrilled!

In one of the classrooms at the Children's Museum, there was a space theme and Finley was in heaven!!
 Captain Finley
 Blast off!
Dagny is also developing a love of all things space (since she LOVES anything that has to do with her big brother).

Grammy and Granddad (back in February)

My folks came up for a week back in February and the kids LOVED having them here (as we all did!).  They took them to and from their mornings at school and kept them home a few days to play.  Finley was so excited to go bowling with his Granddad and I guess we should not have been surprised that Finley got the winning score!
At home they played duplos, the guitar, legos, read thousands of books, baked, and genuinly enjoyed each other's company.  We don't have plans to see Grammy and Granddad until Dagny's birthday in July...I hope we can wait that long!!!
